Ikea’s Swedish Pancakes: Hit or Miss? Kandace, September 9, 2024September 9, 2024 November 25, 2023www.daywithk.comIkea’s Swedish PancakesThese Swedish pancakes can be found in Ikea’s grocery section, the frozen section to be specific. I have never tasted actual Swedish pancakes, are there really Swedish pancakes or are they crepes? So after a bit of investigation aka scrolling the pages of Google (lol), Swedish pancakes are a cross between American pancakes and French crepes according to Lindsay from http://pinchofyum.com. Lindsay has Scandinavian roots and she has grown up eating them. As an added bonus, she provides a recipe for these Swedish pancakes and I cannot wait to give them a try. So be sure to follow the link above for her recipe as well.First ImpressionsThe pancakes are frozen and folded over just as they appear on the packaging. I was not sure if they would be flavorful so as they began to heat in the oven, I brushed a little coconut oil on them to give them added flavor. If you like the subtle taste of coconut, you may consider this added touch as well. The pancake simply needs to heat for a few minutes in the oven but it does not get crispy. I followed the time given on the instructions. The taste is beyond subtle but I suppose this provides the opportunity to add all of your desired toppings and create flavor in that way.www.daywithk.comI prepared these for our kids. First, I sprinkled powdered sugar and added strawberries, blueberries and a few pieces of mango chunks. After that, I poured strawberry topping and finished with a spoonful of whipped cream. There was a bit of sweet added to every bite of the pancake and my kids all agreed that the toppings made the crepe more appealing. For us, the Swedish pancake was very much the vehicle for the toppings. ConsistencyThe consistency is not at all like a pancake, it is what I would imagine a crepe would be. Full disclosure, never in my life have I tasted a crepe but based on what I’ve seen, the Swedish pancake is more crepe than pancake. It tasted egg white forward. Now what on Earth does that mean? lol To me it was the taste that I get from just an egg white. After tasting this I am very curious to try a crepe. It is my goal to travel and try an authenticate creperie but until then, I will see how to make one myself and document the outcome in an upcoming post.Overall impressionWe always enjoy trying new foods and we can add Ikea’s Swedish pancakes to the list. Would this be a repurchase for me? Yes, I would repurchase these. They are versatile and could be used in a savory or sweet dish. If you are ever in Ikea, stop by the grocery section and give the Swedish pancakes a try.Have you ever tried the Swedish pancakes from Ikea? Leave your comments down below about them.
