Herbs Galore turned out to be worth the visit. This was one big plant sale for garden lovers. This sale is a yearly even but not always at the same location. This year, it was located at Maymont. According to the brochure, this event and others like it are an opportunity to raise money to protect, preserve and keep Maymont open to the public. Maymont is a 100 acre historic estate and park. There are gardens and an arboretum. It is a wildlife habitat located in Richmond, Virginia. For more information about Maymont and its foundation that supports wildlife, visit www.maymont.org.

It was an amazing event for Richmond and the surrounding counties. Community support was great. There was large variety of vendors: local growers selling fruit plants, herb plants, flowers and more. Also, you could find local honey, apparel and goods from artisans. Last, but not least there were food trucks! We definitely had to visit the food trucks.

I enjoyed walking and looking at all the plants for sale. Thankfully, my family came along. The plants were not that interesting to them but I’m glad that they didn’t mind coming along. We all have our favorite things but I like to make sure that everyone can enjoy something not matter which type of experience we have. After I visited the different plant vendors it was time for the big event, the food trucks! 🙂

Harvey Gardens (gourd crafters)

But before the food trucks we stopped by a local artisan’s table featuring bowls made from gourds. These lovely pieces were for sale and on display by Harvey Gardens. Mrs. Gwendolyn Harvey and her husband (and daughters as well) work together to make these gourds the beautiful handmade creations you see. These gourds were painted and even tissue paper were placed inside of some gourds.

The gourd will now be a candy dish, the kids love that! I enjoyed the chance to speak with the author of the books, Mrs. Harvey. She is also a retired educator. I am excited to add the books to our home library. Sweet Treats From The Blackberry Bush even has a blackberry pie recipe to try. I haven’t done that yet but I’ll be sure to provide an update if so.

Food Trucks: Waffles on Wheels RVA

The main food trucks that we visited was Waffles on Wheels RVA and Timber Pizza Co. Waffles on Wheels serves handheld amazing waffles and coffee. The owners were inspired by summers in Belgium, wanting to bring a taste of these memories to Richmond, VA the delicious waffles have been created for everyone to enjoy. When I say delicious, that really is an understatement. The waffles were warm, chewy but with a light crisp edge and finished with a melt in your mouth experience. Our kids and me loved them! I really should have bought 1 for each person because I really did not want to share. I didn’t taste the coffee but I am sure I will seek out this food truck again!

The two choices that we decided on were The Tour de France. This waffle had whipped cream, bananas and chocolate syrup. The Classic with whipped cream and strawberries Liège style.  Liège waffles have pearl sugar mixed into the dough. (This information can be found on the wafflesonwheelsrva.com website). The picture below is before and then the next pictures will be the aftermath! 🙂

Food Trucks: Timber Pizza Co.

The next food we tried was the pizza at Timber Pizza Co. This company delivers all the pizza amazement but on wheels. They even cater. You can find their information on their website: www.timberpizza.com. They even have a mobile wood fired oven! The pizzas were made to order and they were amazing as well. The dough was just the right amount of chewy goodness. Now in my opinion, “just the right amount of chewy goodness” means there’s a little pull to every bite but not enough to pull out a tooth! lol There was a slightly crisp crust.

We devoured the pizza! It was almost gone before I remembered to take a photo. 🙂

Final Thoughts

Overall, my family and I enjoyed our time at Herbs Galore. It would be an event to attend again. Are there local garden events in your area? If so, have you attended? Let me know in the comments below. Thank you once again for spending part of your day with me! Take care for now. 🙂
